Sri Lankan athlete Tharushi Abisheka grabbed the Gold medal in the women’s 1,500 m event at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships currently underway in Hong Kong on Thursday (28), with a timing of 4:31.41.

She secured first place ahead of Iran’s Maryam Baluoutaki and South Korea’s Song Dawson, who finished second and third, respectively.

Abisheka also competes in the 800 m event. The championship features athletes from 40 nations competing across 46 events.

Sri Lanka is represented at the tournament by a 22-member squad comprising 15 male and seven female athletes.
