The Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority has taken disciplinary action against 132 private bus conductors for failing to issue tickets to passengers, while nine passengers were fined for travelling without valid tickets.
An additional 228 drivers and conductors were penalized for violations such as using mobile phones while driving, operating without a licence, and possessing forged documents.
They have been temporarily suspended and directed to undergo mandatory retraining.
Chairman Jayasinghe stated that continuous inspections are being carried out to enforce regulations, following the new ticket-issuing policy implemented on the 1st of this month.
