SL Women’s tour of West Indies: Chamari stars in 4-wicket win

03 Mar 2026

  • Takes 1-0 lead in three-match series

Captain Chamari Athapaththu produced an all-round display as the touring Sri Lanka Women’s team beat the West Indies Women by 4-wickets in the second T20I played at Grenada on Sunday (1), taking a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.

Chasing a below-par 101 to win, the visitors got across the line for the loss of 6 wickets with 11 balls to spare, with opener Athapaththu leading the chase with a 26-ball 39 inclusive of seven fours and a six.

Though Sri Lanka lost a few wickets in the middle-order, crucial contributions from Vishmi Gunaratne (10) and Kavisha Dilhari (18 no), enabled them to reach the finish line, and take a decisive lead in the bilateral series with a match to come on Tuesday (3).

Earlier SL Women having won the toss inserted their hosts and bowled them out for 101 in their allotted 20 overs, with pace duo Malki Madara (3-16) and Nilakshika Silva (3-20) being the pick of the bowlers.

For the West Indies Women skipper Hayley Matthews top scored with 28, but the rest found it difficult to keep the Lankan bowlers at bay losing wickets at regular intervals to be shot out for another sub-par total.

They had been bundled out for 49 in the series opener on Saturday (28 Feb), but were saved their blushes by the weather gods who intervened forcing the umpires to call off the game.

Captain Athapaththu also chipped in with figures of 2-13 as the Lankan Women comfortably got the better of their counterparts from the Caribbean.
