Sri Lanka has established the Sri Lanka Association of Women Judges (SLAWJ) to address gender inequality within the justice sector.
Supreme Court (SC) Judges Kumudini Wickremasinghe and Menaka Jayasudara were appointed President and Vice President respectively, with former SC Judge Shiranee Tilakawardane as Patron.
The association, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and partners, aims to promote gender equality, enhance judicial integrity, and encourage more women to pursue judicial careers.
SLAWJ also seeks affiliation with the International Association of Women Judges to advance gender equality and human rights globally.
