To mark International Day for Biological Diversity, the Ministry of Environment has declared the Galapitamada habitat of the endangered Bandula Pethiya fish a conservation zone.

Found only in Warakapola, the species faces extinction due to habitat degradation. Deputy Minister Anton Jayakody will lead the conservation program.

The 40,683-hectare Nilgala Forest will be named a protected reserve today at a ceremony in Bibile, led by Minister Dammika Patabendi.

These initiatives align with Sri Lanka’s Environment Week, coinciding with World Environment Day.
