Sri Lanka has reported 40,633 dengue cases and 22 dengue-related deaths from January 2025 to yesterday (20), according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
Community Medical Specialist Dr. Prashila Samaraweera stated today (October 21) that the majority of cases are concentrated in the Western Province, with high numbers also reported in districts including Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, and Ratnapura, which recorded the highest number of deaths.
Dr. Samaraweera highlighted that most mosquito breeding sites are found in:
Schools, Government institutions, Places of worship and Abandoned lands and buildings.
The NDCU has requested the public to promptly destroy mosquito breeding grounds and seek immediate medical attention from a qualified doctor if a fever persists for more than two days.
