Sri Lanka and Switzerland held the third expert-level meeting on their Migration Partnership in Bern on Tuesday (29), reviewing progress since the partnership began in 2016.

The two countries discussed the future direction of collaboration following the handover of the Swiss-funded Safe Labour Migration Program (SLMP) to the Sri Lankan Government last year. The programme aims to institutionalize sustainable systems for protecting Sri Lankan migrant workers.

Officials reaffirmed commitments to safe and orderly migration, exploring areas such as skills development, pre-departure orientation, and combating human trafficking. Switzerland also pledged further support for Sri Lanka’s domestic skills framework and anti-trafficking efforts.

The meeting brought together key representatives from migration, police, and foreign affairs authorities of both countries, reflecting the partnership’s continued focus on rights-based and mutually beneficial migration.
