Major reservoirs at 63% capacity, sufficient for Yala cultivation

The Department of Irrigation has stated that 63% of the total storage capacity of the 73 major reservoirs under its management has been filled, ensuring sufficient water for the ongoing Yala cultivation season.

Reservoir storage levels remain above 70% in several districts, including Anuradhapura, Kandy, Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa and Puttalam.

However, the Department urged the public and farming communities to use water sparingly, citing forecasts of reduced rainfall in the coming weeks.
