Police in Matara have arrested 36 motorcyclists on Vesak Poya Day for reckless driving and causing public nuisance.
The motorcycles, with forged number plates, modified silencers, and other illegal modifications, were seized during a special traffic operation in Matara aimed at reducing accidents and ensuring public safety.
According to police, the suspects were aged 18 to 20 and held temporary driving licences. They have been identified as residents of Galle, Weligama, Akuressa, and Matara.
Police added that the motorcycles would be inspected by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic before being produced in court.
