Sri Lanka joined the global observance of International Coastal Cleanup Day today (20), coinciding with the start of Ocean Conservation Week. 

The official ceremony was held at Panadura Beach Park under the patronage of Prime Minister (PM)Harini Amarasooriya.

Sri Lanka has marked the day since 2008, with 2016 designating it as “Marine Resources Conservation Week.” 

This year, MEPA will also use scientific methods to collect coastal waste data, aiming to raise awareness and protect marine ecosystems.
