  • A review of Copper Ceylon in the UK

The beautiful island of Sri Lanka has a range of rich and deep-rooted culinary creations and traditions. Sri Lankans are well-known for their love of flavoursome food, created using a combination of exquisite spices and other ingredients.

Recently, we visited the lovely Sri Lankan restaurant called Copper Ceylon and had a fabulous dining experience. We experienced true and elegant Sri Lankan hospitality and awesome tastes in a beautiful setting. The restaurant was able to capture Sri Lankan culture and heritage very well.

Copper Ceylon is located in the heart of the town of Bromley (at 32, East Street, Bromley, London), in Greater London. This restaurant has been in operation for just over five years and is the creation of husband-and-wife duo Haran and Lavanya Thurairjah of Sri Lankan heritage.

Copper Ceylon has won some great awards, including Best Restaurant London Suburbs at the British Curry Awards in 2022 and Sri Lankan Curry Restaurant of the Year at the London Curry Awards. The setting and décor of the restaurant was very vibrant and the staff were very welcoming and always ready to help with explaining any items on the menu.

The drinks menu contained a lovely range. The rich flavours of Sri Lankan food was present in every food item we selected. For starters, the fantastic jackfruit patties, wadey with green chutney, squid, and cutlets went off very well.

The ever-popular Sri Lankan food of hoppers (both egg and plain) were crispy and tasty and went off very well with the kalu pol pork curry and the accompanying side dishes of pol sambol and seeni sambol. Chicken kottu roti, a firm favourite for any occasion, was truly brilliant.

Scanning the food menu showed it to be diverse and able to cater to different dietary needs. It was able to pay tribute to Sri Lanka’s culinary traditions and included a number of vegan friendly dishes. The Copper Ceylon restaurant serves both lunch and dinner and is open from Wednesday to Sunday.
