NMAC slams misleading demining video

NMAC slams misleading demining video

02 Sep 2025 | BY Sumudu Chamara

Noting that a misleading video about the demining process is being circulated on social media, the National Mine Action Centre (NMAC) stated that the law will be strictly enforced against those publicising such misleading content in a manner that incites public unrest.

In a statement issued in this regard, the NMAC said that the video of a demonstration of demining activities using dogs had been recorded during a programme held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo, and that it had been published on social media with misleading captions.

Sri Lanka has ratified the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, and this event had been held on 28 August to officially launch the reviewed strategic plan for the 2025-2027 period, as Sri Lanka aims to declare itself free from landmines and unexploded ordnance by 1 June 2028.

The statement urged the public not to be misled by the false information surrounding the abovementioned social media content.
