A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) arrived in the country yesterday (22), to assess the damage caused by cyclone Ditwah and to hold discussions with relevant authorities regarding the situation.
The delegation will remain in Sri Lanka until 28 January. The IMF noted that the purpose of the visit is to examine how Sri Lanka has addressed the economic and humanitarian challenges caused by cyclone Ditwah, and to understand the impact on infrastructure, livelihoods, and economic stability.
Additionally, the IMF has completed the fifth review of the extended funding facility provided to Sri Lanka, and attention during this visit is also expected to focus on securing approval for the next stage of the programme.
