The Irrigation Department has issued a flood warning for low-lying areas along the Deduru Oya following heavy rainfall in the upper and middle parts of the river basin.

Spillway gates at the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened, releasing around 16,500 cubic feet of water per second into the river. The discharge may increase depending on incoming water levels.

The warning covers parts of Wariyapola, Nikaweratiya, Maho, Kobeigane, Bingiriya, Pallama, Chilaw, Arachchikattuwa and Rasnayakapura.

Residents and motorists in these areas have been urged to remain vigilant and take precautions against flooding.
