As the Founder reminisces, the inception of Candle House Ceylon traces back to December 2016, a time when the Founder, a globetrotter and candle enthusiast, noticed a scarcity of high-quality candles upon returning to Sri Lanka.
Driven by a passion for creativity nurtured through a background in arts, Bhagya recognised an opportunity to craft candles that not only met the highest standards but also reflected personal experiences and a commitment to sustainability. “I used to use a lot of candles back when I was studying abroad. And then I came down to Sri Lanka and couldn’t really find candles of that quality or standard,” Bhagya shared. The void in the market became the canvas for Candle House Ceylon.
To complement the allure of the candles, Candle House Ceylon introduced a harmonious collection of 12-14 essential oils. This thoughtful addition enhanced the overall sensory experience, inviting customers to not only illuminate their spaces but also infuse them with captivating fragrances.
Bhagya’s entrepreneurial journey took root in December 2016, where the flicker of inspiration illuminated a pop-up at the World Trade Centre (WTC). The festive air of Christmas provided the perfect backdrop for introducing candles as a unique and artisanal product. Bhagya recalls the genesis, stating: “It was the Christmas season, and candles were a good product to start with. People were interested, word of mouth was positive, and I started creating brand awareness through my social media.”
With a business degree in hand, Bhagya seamlessly blended entrepreneurial aspirations with artistic sensibilities, laying the foundation for a brand that would evolve over the years. “I’m quite independent, and I figured that I can try to make them as well.
From humble beginnings with just one container, Candle House Ceylon has expanded its offerings to a diverse range of meticulously crafted candles. The journey, however, didn’t stop at local shelves; the brand has gone beyond borders, engaging in both retail endeavours in Colombo and indirect exports. Bhagya reflects on the growth with pride, acknowledging the steadfast support of loyal customers who have been integral to the brand’s success.
As the brand marked a significant milestone with its latest store launch at WH Sri Lanka, Colombo 7, Bhagya expressed a mix of pride and gratitude. “I’m quite proud and want to give back to my customers who have been very loyal and who’ve also been a big strength and support to me throughout the years. So, this is also my way of giving back,” Bhagya shared. The launch not only signifies a business achievement but also serves as a gesture of appreciation during the festive season.

Bhagya explains how each season introduces a unique collection of scents, carefully curated to resonate with the essence of that time of year. “Each season, the fragrances differ, so I usually test the fragrances before launching, and they’re mostly scents that are Christmassy and seasonal,” Bhagya revealed.
With a playful nod to the holiday spirit, this year’s offerings include pine Christmas tree fragrances, zesty orange, and the irresistible cranberry with a hint of cinnamon warmth. The aromatic symphony extends to juniper and white birch, infusing homes with the spirit of the season.
