Murdu Fernando sworn in as Sri Lanka's 48th Chief Justice

Supreme Court (SC) Justice Murdu Nirupa Bidushinie Fernando was sworn in as Sri Lanka's 48th Chief Justice before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (02) at the Presidential Secretariat.


Fernando succeeds Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya following his retirement. 


With over three decades of service in the Attorney General’s Department, she was appointed to the Supreme Court (SC) in 2018. 


Fernando holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Colombo and has played a key role in shaping Sri Lanka's legal landscape.


The ceremony was attended by Secretary to the President, Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
