Railways General Manager Ravindra Pathmapriya stated that track repairs following the ‘Sagarika’ train derailment are expected to take two days.
The train derailed near Wadduwa Railway Station on April 24 while operating from Beliatta to Maradana, damaging a track on the coastal line.
Train services are currently limited up to Panadura, with Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses deployed between Panadura and South Kalutara.
Rail services will resume from South Kalutara towards Matara and Beliatta, the Department of Railways noted.
Re-railing operations have commenced, and steps are being taken to restore at least one track, he stated.
