The Animals (Amendment) Bill has been enacted into law after Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne certified it today (18).
The amendment expands the legal definition of “animal” under the Animals Act No. 29 of 1958 to include goats, pigs and sheep under relevant provisions.
The Bill was passed by Parliament on August 6 and has now become the Animals (Amendment) Act, No. 19 of 2026.
The Speaker also certified the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (Amendment) Bill, which has been enacted as Act No. 20 of 2026.
