Sri Lanka will not face a rice shortage until the next Maha cultivation season, the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe has stated.
He noted that the Paddy Marketing Board currently holds nearly 140,000 metric tonnes of red and white rice stocks, while arrangements have been made to import substitute rice varieties to maintain market supply.
The Minister also stated that preparations are underway to import fertiliser for the next Maha season, with the fertiliser subsidy increased to Rs. 30,000 per hectare.
