The Colombo Lotus Tower Company plans to commemorate the first anniversary of the Colombo Lotus Tower on 15 September by unveiling several new revenue-generating ventures and hosting an extravagant light show and fireworks display.

Speaking to The Sunday Morning Business, Colombo Lotus Tower Business Development and Marketing Head Bimsara Rozairo revealed that plans were underway to celebrate the first anniversary of South Asia’s tallest tower, towering at 350 metres, with a spectacular light show and fireworks exhibition for the public, surpassing the highly-acclaimed New Year’s fireworks display of 2022.

He further revealed that they would be launching several new revenue-generating ventures such as ‘Lotus Aqua Bay’ – a dedicated area in the East Beira Lake area for water sports and other water activities, ‘Lotus at the Bay’ – an area dedicated to host events for tourists, an open theatre, and an LED screening area for sports at the 15 m level of the tower.

“These new ventures are completely funded by the revenue generated from ticket sales. The Colombo Lotus Tower is a completely self-sustaining business and is not reliant on the Treasury for funds. According to our lease agreement with the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), we have to pay Rs. 100 million per annum and we have already settled the payment for the first year,” Rozairo said.

He shared that plans were underway to open South Asia’s tallest open-space restaurant at the 187 m level of the tower.

“In the Lotus Tower, you will have observed that there are two rings below the lotus. The bottom ring is known as the 187 m level. We have given that level to an investor to start an open-space restaurant at an investment of around Rs. 65-68 million,” he stated.

He further stated that a digital art museum was set to open within the Colombo Lotus Tower and that the necessary projectors had been imported from India, aiming for a public opening by December.

Commenting on the status of the previously announced Sri Lanka’s longest zipline set to launch from the third floor or 15 m level of the Colombo Lotus Tower and extend across East Beira Lake, Rozairo disclosed that the process of evaluating three or four suppliers who had expressed interest was currently underway and that they hoped to open the zipline to the public by end-2023.

Similarly, commenting on the status of the much-heralded agreement signed with Singapore Go Bungy Holdings, he revealed that the necessary structural changes in terms of the ramp required for bungee jumping were currently being implemented and that they were hopeful of introducing bungee jumping at the tower by end-2023.
