LG nomination lists: Persons who turn 18+ in Feb. eligible to vote

07 Mar 2025

  • Youth 25%+, females - 25% divisional, 50% proportional

Individuals who turned 18 years of age by 1 February 2025, will be eligible to vote in the upcoming Local Government (LG) Elections, said the Election Commission (EC).

Accordingly, all persons born on or before 31 January 2007, will have the right to cast their vote.

The EC has issued an official notification in the Gazette under Section 76(a) of the LG Elections Ordinance and Section 24(a) of the Voters Registration Act to formalise this decision.

In addition, the EC has released details regarding the number of candidates to be nominated for each LG institution, as well as the required deposit amounts for contesting the elections.

As per the guidelines, the nomination lists for each LG institution must be prepared at both the divisional and proportional levels. The EC has also emphasised that youth representation in each nomination list must exceed 25%. Furthermore, gender representation requirements have been outlined, mandating that divisional-level nomination lists include at least 25% female candidates, while proportional nomination lists must ensure 50% female representation.
