Sri Lanka and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral defence cooperation following high-level talks held in Tokyo.
The meeting between Deputy Defence Minister Aruna Jayasekara and Japanese Defence Minister Shinjirō Koizumi focused on maritime security, disaster management, and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.
Both sides highlighted the importance of collaboration in ensuring a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific,” while Sri Lanka reiterated its strategic role in safeguarding security in the Indian Ocean.
Discussions also covered expanding joint naval exercises, training opportunities, and humanitarian assistance initiatives, with both countries agreeing to further strengthen defence ties and continue dialogue moving forward.
