Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa met with Japanese Ambassador Akio Isomata today to discuss Sri Lanka’s worsening disaster situation and relief needs.
Premadasa thanked Japan for deploying emergency teams and appealed for further assistance, including technical expertise and workforce support to repair damaged roads and the severely affected rail network.
He briefed the Ambassador on the scale of devastation, collapsed infrastructure, destroyed livelihoods, mass displacement, and shortages of essential services.
Highlighting that several major hospitals still lack water, he urged urgent humanitarian support to prevent potential disease outbreaks.
Premadasa also emphasized the need for transparent and non-politicized mechanisms to ensure all aid reaches affected communities swiftly and fairly.
