The Police Chief for the Peel Region in Canada, and the nephew of slain Jaffna Mayor Alfred Duraiappah, Nishan Duraiappah made a personal visit to Sri Lanka last month (December).
During his visit, he visited the Police Headquarters and shared his experience with the local counterparts on community policing and the best practices used by the Canadian law enforcement agencies.
Duraiappah began his career with the Halton Police in December, 1995, and has served in a variety of assignments throughout his career including in frontline policing, specialised investigations, and diversity and community relations.
He also visited and paid a floral tribute to the memorial of his uncle who was slain by terrorists in 1975.
