Govt. to fund new five-storey building at Jaffna University

16 Sep 2025 | BY Staff Writer

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to construct a new five-storey building for the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Jaffna.

The project, estimated at Rs. 2,234 million, aims to address a severe shortage of infrastructure at the faculty.

Since its establishment in 2006, the faculty has expanded to serve 952 students from all ethnic backgrounds across four degree programmes: medical laboratory science, pharmacy, nursing, and physical education.

Although Cabinet approval for the facility was first granted in 2017, the project stalled due to the country’s financial crisis. The new building will feature modern facilities including lecture halls, laboratories, tutorial rooms, a dedicated examination hall, and an auditorium.

The proposal was presented by the Prime Minister in her capacity as Minister of Education.
