Sampath Bank PLC has announced the appointment of Sanjaya Dias Pujitha Gunawardana as its new Managing Director, effective 24 September 2025, marking a pivotal leadership transition aimed at reinforcing the bank’s strategic ambitions.

Gunawardana, currently serving as Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Deputy General Manager, will step into the role of Managing Director Designate from 1 July 2025. The transition follows the scheduled departure of incumbent MD Ayodhya Iddawela Perera, who will complete her tenure on 23 September 2025.

A career banker with over 35 years of service at Sampath Bank, Gunawardana has played instrumental roles across strategic planning, retail banking, and IT functions. His comprehensive understanding of the bank’s operational DNA positions him to steer Sampath through an increasingly competitive financial landscape.
