The Department of Meteorology issued a warning for naval and fishing communities to avoid deep and shallow sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Kankesanthurai and Trincomalee due to the influence of a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal.
The advisory, valid for the next 24 hours from 12:00 noon today (29), indicates that showers and thundershowers will occur in surrounding sea areas, with heavy showers expected along the coast from Kankesanthurai to Batticaloa via Trincomalee.
Winds in the region are expected to reach speeds of 40-50 kmph, with gusts up to 60-70 kmph in certain areas, making the seas rough to very rough.
Swell waves could reach 2.5–3.0 m in height, and near-shore areas may experience surges. Strong winds and very rough seas are likely during thundershowers.
