The Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Lammy, is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka today (17), marking an important step in strengthening UK–Sri Lanka relations.
The visit aims to reaffirm the partnership between the two nations and provides an opportunity for the Deputy Prime Minister to witness firsthand the UK’s humanitarian response to Cyclone Ditwah, which caused extensive damage across Sri Lanka last year.
During his stay, David Lammy will meet with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss key issues including economic cooperation, reconciliation efforts, humanitarian priorities, and Sri Lanka’s engagement with the Global Charter on Children’s Care Reform—an international initiative focused on strengthening family-based care and protecting children's rights.
The Deputy Prime Minister is expected to engage with humanitarian aid partners involved in delivering UK support to communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah, demonstrating ongoing commitment to aid and recovery efforts in the country.
