At least 22 people have died, and around 40 others are receiving treatment following a tragic bus accident in Gerandi Ella, Ramboda.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus, travelling from Kataragama to Kurunegala via Nuwara Eliya, veered off the road and plunged down a precipice early yesterday (11).

Critically injured victims are being treated at hospitals in Nuwara Eliya, Gampola, Kandy, Peradeniya, and Nawalapitiya.

Police say some remain in critical condition, while the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Rescue efforts were carried out by police, tri-forces, and local residents.
