The derailed express train operating from Peradeniya to Colombo Fort is currently being re-railed, the Department of Railways stated.

Train services along the Upcountry Railway Line have been temporarily suspended due to the derailment.

Work is also underway to restore the affected section of track for train operations. Authorities hope to resume services as soon as possible, depending on the progress of the re-railing work.
