Former Minister C.B. Rathnayake, who was remanded following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over an investigation, has been granted bail. He was ordered to be released on two surety bonds of Rs. two million each by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. The Court also imposed an overseas travel ban on Rathnayake. Rathnayake was arrested on 2 December of this year (2025) after he appeared before the CIABOC to provide a statement in connection with charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act relating to corruption charges. The suspect, Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Chandrasiri Bandara Rathnayake, who previously served as the Sports Minister, the Private Transport Minister, and the Livestock Minister, had been remanded until yesterday (16). The case is linked to an investigation conducted by the CIABOC’s Assets Investigation Division under Section 23(a)(1) of the Bribery Act, concerning the alleged illegal acquisition of assets exceeding Rs. 57.3 million.
