Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India, Mahishini Colonne, has underscored the strong tourism relationship between the two countries, noting that India remains Sri Lanka’s largest source of tourists.

In a post on X, she revealed that Indian travellers accounted for around 20% of all tourists visiting Sri Lanka in 2024.

Emphasizing the deep cultural and civilisational bonds between the two nations, Colonne said Sri Lanka offers more than just a holiday destination for Indian visitors.

She also highlighted that Indian tourism plays a vital role in supporting local communities whose livelihoods depend on the sector, in addition to contributing to the national economy.

Describing Sri Lanka as a welcoming and value-for-money destination, she said Indian visitors are treated as part of the island’s extended family.

Inviting more Indians to visit, the High Commissioner added that Sri Lanka should be on every Indian’s travel itinerary in 2026.
