The Cabinet has approved a new methodology for issuing inter-provincial passenger transport permits, based on proposals by the National Transport Commission.

The revised system aligns with the National Transport Commission (Amendment) Act, No. 8 of 2025 and aims to balance the interests of existing bus operators while opening opportunities for new investors.

Authorities stated the move is expected to improve access to quality public transport services and strengthen the overall passenger transport sector.
