Six Athletes from JaPura for FISU

A team of six students from Sri Jayawardenapura University is set to participate in the 31st World University Games scheduled to be held in China from July 28 to August 8.

Hasara Wijayaratne, a final year student of the Science Department of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, together Hasini Ambalangodage, a third year student at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, were selected to compete in the doubles Badminton event at the World University Games. The two are nationally ranked number one in women's doubles badminton rankings. 

Amaya Kalukottage, who is a third year student in the Department of Sports Science and Management of the Faculty of Applied Sciences managed to book her spot in for the gymnastics event at the games. She is a national level gymnast in Sri Lanka. In 2018 and 2022 she represented Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Games.

Chamal Kumarasiri, studying in the final year at Sports Science and Management Studies Department, Faculty of Applied Sciences qualified for the triple jump event. He is an accomplished athlete who won first place in the triple jump event at the 2022 National Athletics Championships with a new tournament record.

S.A.T Dasun, studying in the Department of Sports Science and Management, will take part in the high jump event. Dasun is a bronze medalist in the high jump event at the 2022 National Athletics Championships and holds the record in the high jump event at the 2022 Inter-University Games.

Amasha de Silva, a student of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, who became the national champion three times consecutively in the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 in the 100m running event at the National Athletics Championship, will represent the country in the 100m event at the World University Games.
