The Western Province (North) Crime Division arrested two persons involved in demanding a ransom from a woman after issuing death threats to her over the phone.

On 4 December, a woman from the Dippitigoda area in Kelaniya had received death threats from a drug trafficker based abroad, who had used his accomplices to call her and demand a ransom of Rs. one million.

The Crime Division had launched an investigation into the incident following a complaint received in this regard. Accordingly, two suspects, who are 35- and 53-year-old residents of the Kelaniya area, were arrested on Sunday (22) in the Dalugama area of Kiribathgoda and in the Pattiya Junction area of Peliyagoda.

The Crime Division is conducting further investigations into the incident.
