President calls on DCCs to drive rural development and boost productive economy

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called on Chairpersons of District Coordinating Committees (DCCs) to take a leading role in strengthening Sri Lanka’s production-oriented economy and accelerating rural development efforts.


Speaking at a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat today(16), the President stressed the importance of timely and efficient fund distribution for district-level projects outlined in the 2024 budget, which prioritizes the productive economy.


He highlighted the urgent need to address rural infrastructure gaps and urged DCCs to ensure allocated funds are utilized effectively within set timelines.


The President also instructed DCC Chairpersons to tailor development plans to the specific needs of each district and to involve relevant Ministers in the implementation process.


The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando, DCC Chairpersons and their representatives, and senior Finance Ministry officials.
