Remittances up 18% y-o-y

Sri Lanka’s year-on-year (y-o-y) remittances for the first five months of the year exceeded $ 3 billion in the first five months, up by 18.2% from the same period last year ($ 2.62 billion), data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) shows.

Sri Lanka received $ 641.7 million in workers’ remittances in May, according to the latest figures released.

Meanwhile, official figures show that earnings from tourism reached $ 1.54 billion during the first five months of this year.

Accordingly, the total tourism earnings in the first five months of 2025 is recorded as $ 1.54 billion, which is an increase of 9.8% compared to the tourism earnings of $ 1.40 billion recorded in the first five months of 2024.
