17 Feb 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Sri Lanka and Japan formalised their collaboration on economic policy through a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed during the Sri Lanka–Japan Intergovernmental Economic Policy Dialogue on 16 February at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

On behalf of Sri Lanka, the MoC was signed by Mr K. A. Vimalenthirarajah and Mr Dharshana M. Perera.

Japan was represented by Mr Matsuo Takehiko and Mr Murotani Masakatsu.

Discussions covered Sri Lanka’s foreign investment policy, industrial economic corridors, export capacity, and opportunities for Japanese firms such as Itochu and Mitsui.

A working group will be established to operationalise the industrial economic corridor, with both sides expressing confidence that the agreement will strengthen long-term economic cooperation and bilateral friendship.
