A new awareness programme aimed at supporting farmers facing rising costs of fuel, fertiliser and other agricultural inputs will begin tomorrow (14).
The Department of Agriculture Sri Lanka said the initiative is being carried out under the national programme “Isuru Genena Yalak” for the Yala season.
The programme will be implemented island-wide and focuses on soil test–based fertiliser use, reducing chemical fertiliser dependency and improving crop yields with lower input costs.
Officials said the initiative will also promote crops such as cowpea, green gram, chilli and onion to strengthen rural income and reduce import dependency.
