Central Province Governor Prof. Sarath Abayakoon has submitted his resignation to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Prof. Abayakoon said he resigned for personal reasons and has not yet received a response from the President on whether the resignation has been accepted.

The post of Secretary to the Central Province Governor is also vacant following the retirement of Manjula Madahapola, with Ishan Wijethilake appointed to act until a permanent appointment is made.
