PolishUp 2026 organised by AIESEC Sri Lanka

30 Jan 2026

PolishUp 2026, a national-level professional development initiative organised by AIESEC in Sri Lanka and hosted by AIESEC in University of Kelaniya, was successfully held on 24 January at the Duncan White Auditorium, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs. The event brought together over 250 young delegates from across the country, creating a dynamic space for learning, discussion, and personal growth.

PolishUp 2026 opened with an inspiring keynote speech by  Mr. World Sri Lanka 2024 Megha Sooriyaarachchi. His speech set the tone for the day, encouraging young people to invest in self-development and professionalism as they prepare to enter the corporate world.

The programme was designed around three core sessions: dressing etiquette, dining etiquette, and a panel discussion, all aimed at equipping motivated youth with practical skills required to thrive in professional environments, regardless of academic background.

The first session on Dressing Etiquette was conducted by Head of Fashion Design at Emerald International Chameen De Mel. The interactive session covered essential guidelines on professional attire for both men and women, focusing on interview dressing, business meetings, workplace expectations, and everyday professional appearance. The session emphasised the importance of first impressions and dressing appropriately for different professional contexts.

This was followed by an engaging Dining Etiquette session led by Assistant Lecturer at the Colombo Academy of Hospitality Management Hashani Lahirumalee, along with her team. Through a live demonstration using professional cutlery and table settings, delegates were guided through proper dining conduct, from basic table manners to the correct use of cutlery, highlighting respectful and professional behaviour in formal dining settings.

Following a short break, the programme moved into the panel discussion, moderated by News Anchor and Journalist Amasha Fernando. The discussion featured three distinguished panelists who shared diverse perspectives on communication, confidence, and personal growth.

International Communication Trainer and Certified Transformative Coach Fahad Farook added insights on the power of communication and how confidence is built through consistent practice and presence. Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World 2021 Sade Greenwood brought a refined perspective on self-care, social etiquette, and personal presentation, drawing from her experience on international platforms.

Adding a dynamic entrepreneurial angle, trainer, coach, and entrepreneur Udayanga Weerarathne spoke on building confidence through action, stepping beyond comfort zones, and developing a strong personality to succeed in both professional and personal life.

The panel concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing delegates to directly engage with the speakers and gain personalised insights.
