President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, describing it as a critical move towards regional stability and the preservation of innocent lives on both sides of the border.
In an official Message of Appreciation issued on 11 May, the President commended the leaders of the two nations for replacing conflict with dialogue, stating that their decision to pursue diplomacy over violence reflected “wisdom and statesmanship.”
“Sri Lanka hopes that this ceasefire leads to the peaceful resolution of longstanding issues through constructive engagement,” President Dissanayake said, adding that the country reaffirmed its unwavering support for continued dialogue.
The President also reiterated Sri Lanka’s readiness to contribute towards regional peace efforts, highlighting the country’s longstanding position as a neighbour and friend to both India and Pakistan.
The message comes amid growing calls across South Asia for de-escalation and strengthened regional cooperation.
