Sri Lankan jailed in Australia

05 May 2024

A fake TV executive, originally from Sri Lanka, has been sentenced to two years jail in Australia over ‘highly sexual phone calls,’ the Australian media reported.

One 56-year-old Gerard Cecil Vamadevan had reportedly made hundreds of harassing phone calls, telling one mother he would “rape her daughter and cut her into pieces”.

Vamadevan was sentenced in the NSW District Court last Monday (29 April) after previously pleading guilty to one count of using a false identification to commit fraud and multiple counts of using a carriage service to harass, News.com.au reported.

The charges involved 19 separate victims between 1 January 2018 and 22 January 2022.
