President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed officials to take stronger measures to protect the Northern and Eastern coastlines and take legal action against unauthorised construction damaging coastal areas.

He also ordered an expert committee to recommend measures to address coastal erosion along the Oluvil coastline.

The President further instructed officials to accelerate delayed human-elephant conflict mitigation projects and ensure funds allocated for them are used before the end of the year.
