Former Director of the State Intelligence Service, retired Major General Suresh Sallay, has been granted permission to be detained for 90 days for questioning in connection with ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Sallay was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as part of continuing probes into the coordinated bombings that killed more than 260 people and injured hundreds across Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019.
Authorities stated that the Sunday detention period will enable investigators to conduct further questioning under legal provisions applicable to national security investigations.
The Easter Sunday attacks, which targeted churches and luxury hotels, remain one of the deadliest terror incidents in Sri Lanka’s history.
Multiple investigations and related legal proceedings are currently ongoing, with further developments expected as inquiries progress.
