The Department of Meteorology has forecast fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North Central provinces, as well as Trincomalee and Mullaitivu districts today(17).

Showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m., while morning showers are possible in coastal areas of the Western Province and in Galle, Puttalam, Mannar and Jaffna districts.

The public is advised to take precautions against temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
