Two traders in Wellawaya have been fined a total of Rs. 300,000 for selling rice above the stipulated maximum retail prices.

The Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court imposed Rs. 150,000 fines on each trader after they pleaded guilty to the offences.

One trader sold Keeri Samba rice above the controlled price, while the other sold imported Ponni Samba GR 11 rice above its maximum retail price.
