Lanka Football Cup: Kandy FC dominate Jaffna FC in semis

Kandy Football Club completely annihilated Jaffna Football Club 5-0 in the first semi final of the Inaugural Lanka Football Cup Tourney held at the City League Football Complex in Colombo. Previously in the quarter-final clash, Kandy FC yet again showed their dangerous play by scoring a thumping 9 goals against a hapless Negombo FC outfit. Jaffna FC beat Kalutara FC 3-2 in their quarter final game.

In the other match-ups in the quarters, tournament favourites and hometown team Colombo FC got the better of Eastern FC 1-0 in a thrilling encounter. Galle FC had to put a lot into their game against Central FC to win in a close 2-1 affair. 

The final of Lanka Football Cup 2024 is scheduled to take place Saturday (18) at the City League Football Complex with 25 May also set aside as a stand-by-date due to sudden weather changes experienced in the recent days. 

The Lanka Football Cup Tourney comprises eight teams – Colombo FC, Central FC, Eastern FC, Galle FC, Jaffna FC, Kalutara FC, Kandy FC and Negombo FC. The tournament is played on a knockout basis with 4 quarter finals, 2 semi-finals and a final. The 8 teams are coached by well-known coaches in the local sphere and former players. Roomy Hassan (Colombo), Ramees Hasan (Kalutara), EB Channa (Galle), Ratnam Jusmin (Jaffna), Rawme Mohideen (Central), Mohamed Mohideen (Eastern), Ashfak Ahmed (Kandy), Chathura Gunarathna (Negombo).
