Following the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation facing criticism from unions for allegedly withholding the report of a three-member committee appointed to investigate incidents of alleged corruption and irregularities at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), the Ministry stated that the report in question has been forwarded to the SLPA management for further action.
Speaking to The Daily Morning yesterday (26), the Secretary to the Ministry, K.D.S. Ruwanchandra, addressing the allegations, claimed that the Ministry has not withheld the report. "The report has been sent to the SLPA for further actions. We have ensured that the management is fully informed and equipped to proceed with the necessary steps," Ruwanchandra affirmed. He emphasised the Ministry's commitment to transparency and accountability. Ruwanchandra maintained that the Ministry's actions were in accordance with procedural requirements. "We have acted in line with the established protocols. The report's purpose is to inform the SLPA management so that they can take the necessary corrective measures. It is not a matter of withholding information, but rather following the due process to ensure that appropriate actions are taken based on the findings," he elaborated. Ruwanchandra said that the Ministry is dedicated to upholding the integrity of the ports, shipping, and aviation sectors. "We are committed to ensuring that the SLPA operates with the highest standards of integrity and efficiency. The report's findings will be thoroughly examined, and we will support the SLPA in taking all necessary actions to rectify any issues," he stated.
The three-member committee in question was established to probe into reported incidents of alleged corruption and irregularities within the SLPA. Ports unions have been vocal in their demand for the publication of the committee's findings, arguing that transparency is essential for restoring public trust and ensuring that those responsible for any misconduct are held accountable.
