New driving licence with QR code to be issued

The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) is to issue digital driving licenses with QR codes instead of the existing semiconductor chips.

A separate mobile application will be used to read the QR codes, and it will be operated only by the DMT office and the Police Department.

The decision was taken due to the economic crisis that has made it difficult to import chip reading units.
